Review of Biggest Book of Slow Cooker Recipes (Better Homes & Gardens) (Paperback)

Of the 400+ pages only 190 of them are of any use to me. I use a crockpot because it is simple and tasty cooking. So, I was expecting alot of main dish recipies. And I was also expecting them all to be for the crockpot. There is over 60 pages of recipes that do not use the crockpot. There is over 125 pages dedicated to beverages, soups, breads, and desserts. I have never met anyone who has made hot chocolate or apple bread in a crockpot. Of the 190 pages of worth. only 25 pages were the type of recipies that I was looking for. ie. the chop-it up and throw it in the pot type. everything else involved browning or braising or some other type of stove technique. I guess I'm just the kind of cook who doesn'twant to screw around with browning anything. I bought this specifically because of the reviews on amazon. Hopefully this review will speak to those of you like me that are not chefs and are just looking for something easy and tasty to cook.

This book walks you through the processes of landscaping, from planning to installation, in a very readable, understandable and enjoyable manner.As a landscape designer, I'm always searching for references of any type touse when creating "yard spaces" and presenting those ideas to mycustomers.With books, I'm usually disappointed either with the graphicand/or written content regarding the details of landscaping, particularlythose publications sold at the Home Depots et al.This was different. Technical to the point that's necessary and not too "flowery" init's narrative, it just provides wellwritten ideas and executions formany landscaping tasks.

The illustrations & photography in manybooks I've seen work OK but give the books an "old" feel,because, in many cases, they are old in date and style.With fewexceptions, the artwork and landscape "styling" in this bookappear current and appropriate.That made it a more believable booktoo.

All said and done, this book is an excellent value for those seekinggeneral-to-semi-technical information for a wide variety of landscapingtasks.With its emphasis on extensive and educated planning, this book isan asset to the homeowner and the landscape professional alike.In myopinion, one of the book's greatest achievements may be that homeowners,after reading it, can decide better whether to tackle a project themselvesor work with professionals.

First, let me explain, my husband is the gardener, I am the book reader, so we really got together on this one.He moves the perennials and shrubs around and changes the garden plan so often that I wouldn't dare attempt to cross the garden at night without fear of running smack into a Burning Bush!The ultimate result of his long and dedicated devotion to the garden has produced some spectatular results and much can be attributed to this terrific book.

First of all, it told him everything he was doing wrong, and his response to that was, "Oh my ..., I've been working on this for five years and made every mistake in the book!"Secondly, it told him how to do it right. The book covers absolutely everything from planning, choosing the proper plants for the proper location and soil, and how to create symmetry in your garden.The photography is beautifuland the encyclopedia of garden plants is worth its weight in gold!

Three cheers for Better Homes and Gardens for giving us this "can't do without it book." Every gardener, hobbyist or professional, will find something of value here, and hopefully, you will learn where to put the Burning Bush....before it goes into the ground.
