Review of Do It Yourself Home Improvement: Step by Step Guide to Home Improvement (Hardcover)

This is a very good book. However, no one book can cover all the intricacies of home improvement and construction. So it's best to try to look at the book you're thinking of buying before you purchase it. Try a bookstore or library if possible.

Encyclopedia of Home Maintenance & Repair - This is a black & white book, but has very good explanations, especially of electrical.
Popular Mechanics When Duct Tape Just Isn't Enough: Quick Fixes for Everyday Disasters (Popular Mechanics) - This is kind of a "Hints from Heloise" for the home fix'r up'r.

Review of American College of Physicians Complete Home Medical Guide (Hardcover)

First let me say that I used to have the classic AMA Encyclopedia of Medicine for years from 1989 edition, and finally the AMA released a newer book, but it is certainly not as good as the first one and not as good as this ACP Med Guide. Just go to any bookstore and open any page and you'll see what I mean.
The AMA hardly has any photos in the text and is not as nearly richly illustrated as the ACP Complete Med Guide.


This book is loaded with so many rich full color photos and illustrations, it is mind boggling.I have worked in the medical field for nearly 10 years and I have never seen some of the photos in this book.

Many photos are close up using electron microscopes that capture spectacular images of cells.I had taken anatomy and physiology I and II in college and never saw an image of a nerveentering a muscle fiber.

There's a ton of images of various diseases that show you for example instantly what a suspicious skin mole might look like.

Every major system in the body is covered exhaustively by diagrams not just showing the anatomy but how the system and each organ work together.

There's a first aid section at the end that illustrates CPR etc.

There's links to relevant websites throughout the text.

Just go browse it at any bookstore.. I could not put it down for two hours!

Review of Herbal Remedies (Eyewitness Companions) (Paperback)

Anyone who is interested in herbs should get this compact book. It's a great resource to have on hand when working with plants.

The book starts off with some general information on herbal medicine and its preparation. Then it gives exact details on about 140 plants, each accompanied by full colored pictures and details of their therapeutic properties. At the end of the book there is a long chapter on common health problems, and the suggested herbs to use for treatment.

Even though some of the herb listings are a little brief, it's a great starter book and gives you a good overview of the most common herbs.
