Review of Pharmacology Success: A Course Review Applying Critical Thinking to Test Taking (Davis's Success) (Paperback)

The book arrived quickly and in great condition. In all honestly its an okay review book for Pharmacology. The book also has a review for the NCLEX-RN Exam. I think the entire book should have just been a review for Pharmacology. I recommend buying a study guide for the NCLEX-RN Exam seperately.

Product Description
1,150 critical thinking questions (both multiple choice and alternate format) organize the seemingly huge volume of pharmacology information students must master into manageable sections divided by body systems and specific diseases. They not only learn to associate the medication with the disease process, making learning easier, but are also able to evaluate their knowledge of medications prior to taking their exams. All of the questions encompass the basic concepts for medication administration, including why the client is taking the medication when the nurse would question administering the medication how the nurse knows the medication is effective and what interventions the nurse needs to teach the client concerning the medication. This title includes: 1,150 questions - all with rationales for both correct and incorrect answers; bonus CD-ROM with every book!(two 50-question exams (powered by Brownstone) coded according to client need category, cognitive level, integrated processes, and difficulty level); test - taking tips for every question; all questions written at application and analysis level - just like the NCLEX; all questions field tested by nursing students; introductory chapter focusing on applying critical thinking to various question types; approximately 200 new alternate format question types; and, key questions on major drug classes, medication administration, delegation, and management content integrated within disease/disorder questions.

Review of Guide to Culturally Competent Health Care (Paperback)

I felt that this book had a tendency to make very subjective, generalized, unsupported assumptions.I offer an example: in the chapter about Mexicans, it says something to the effect of: being overweight is viewed as a good quality in Mexican culture.Ok, we know that there does tend to be widespread obesity among Mexican populations, but how do you come to the conclusion that being overweight is a desirable state among Mexican people?I am a Mexican American and I have never known a single Mexican person who viewed being overweight as a coveted position.I would not advise taking this book as gospel truth.Exercise caution when referencing this book in the clinical setting.

Review of Transcultural Health Care: A Culturally Competent Approach (Transcultural Healthcare (Purnell)) (Paperback)

I purchased a few books from Amazon.com recently. I just started Nursing School and was terrorized by the tremendous booklist just for this semester! It was such a relief when I found all of my required books on amazon and bought them for HUNDREDS of dollars CHEAPER than anywhere else I looked. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

PS: The condition of the books was better than I could have purchased from the bookstore!

Product Description
This title prepares students for the culturally rich and ethically diverse world in which they will practice. Noted researchers, educators, and clinicians, from a wealth of backgrounds, use the Purnell twelve-step model to examine more than 30 population groups from a health care perspective. Each brings a personal understanding of the traditions and customs of their societies, providing a unique perspective on the implications for patient care.Multiple vignettes in each culture-based chapter clearly illustrate situations and issues across the nursing continuum. Summaries of the chapters on 18 additional cultures online at DavisPlus appear in one-page abstracts in the Appendix. This title features: more student learning resources online at DavisPlus, including all of the Case Studies from the 2nd Edition; and, more teaching tools for instructors online at DavisPlus, including a test bank and classroom assignments for each chapter. It uses the Purnell twelve-step model to organize the discussion of each cultural group, looking at the following factors: inhabited localities, topography, and overview; communications; family roles and organization; workforce issues; biocultural ecology; high-risk behaviors; nutrition; pregnancy and childbearing practices; death rituals; spirituality; health-care practices; and, health-care practitioners.
