Review of The Teenage Body Book (Paperback)

This book is incredible!I am 40 years old and know this book quite well. As a pre-teen, this book was a gift from my best friend's mom. I learned many things through this book that my mom had a hard time explaining. This book made it easy for me to explain topics to my own daughter (who is now 21) and who felt freely to talk to me about any subject, and still does. This book I passed to my daughter who remembers reading it as a pre-teen.We reference things in the book today since i have a step-daughter who is a pre-teen.I will now purchase a book for her very own.To the moms out there, do yourself and your child a favor and purchase this book.It is a great reference for the both of you.

Review of Prospanish Healthcare: Spanish for Family Practitioners [AUDIOBOOK] [ILLUSTRATED] (Paperback)

I am a Pharmacist with a lot of Spanish speaking clientele.I like the cassettes, but the gentleman speaking has such a thick accent, I have to rely on the woman speaking, to hear the enunciation. The CME is a joke. There are 10 chapter exams (3-12 questions each) and you have to send in $30 PER exam for 3 credits each. That will be $300 for 30 CME credit hours, and only for MD's.Book content VERY NICE: greeting, nouns, numbers, symptoms, physical exam, chief complaint, pap smear, well baby, lab tests, ER, pain, derm, opth, herbal, Rx, dental, family, diet, neuro exam, household items; Tomar/comer/cerrar/dormir/hacer/ir a/poner/venir/tener/estar/ decir/ser/ir/traer/salir/oir/pensar/perder/volver/haber. Also a lot of dialogues completely translated. Appendix finds all answers to chapter exams. (not same as CME questions).I recommend this medical intro. It helps me in my practice, it would certainly help an MD, nurse, PA, DDS and OD as well.

Review of Oh, Yuck! The Encyclopedia of Everything Nasty (Paperback)

I bought this for my kid, no I didn't, she's only 3, I b ought it for me and she can have it when she gets older. And I'm buying it for two of my friend's kids. I've always been fascinated with gross stuff like snot, pus, poop, gross foods, etc., and so are most kids. And by the way, my kid, and the two kids I'm buying this for, are girls. The facts are there, it's fun to read, and it might even get the kids to read more and practice good hygiene while they're at it (microscopic photos of worms and such may answer a few questions like "why do I have to wash my hands all the time?" Excellent.

Review of A History of Zionism: From the French Revolution to the Establishment of the State of Israel (Paperback)

I do not know where else in history that we have a people disposed from a land for two thousand years, scattered all over the world, who reconvene through an international movement and regain their homeland.I also can not recall any group suffering the violent and irrational hatred of so many nations as the Jews have.

Lacqueur's history traces this unique movement. It's success was very fragile; the many decisions from world leaders could have gone much differently if made a few years sooner or later.Jews did not initially support it broadly; many prefered assimilation to their country of birth and some felt that the growing socialist movement provided a better answer to anti-Semitism. Even within the Zionist movement political infighting was strong.

Yet the worst fears of those seeking a refuge from growing European anti-Semitism did not forsee the scope of the Holocaust, exterminating 6 out of 7 Jews in Europe. This emboldened the survivors and motivated just barely enough world sympathy to formulate the creation of the Jewish state.

The reaction of the Arabs was neither surprising or unique in the course of developing nations.Lacqueur has the advantage of hindsight to examine policy mistakes and examine how it could have been different, but concludes the difficulty would have remained regardless.

This examination shows Zionism not as a righteous holy ordained movement, nor is it a an evil racist colonial movement as the modern Arab media prefers to portray it.It was a politically and diplomatically unique solution to a very serious and unique problem.

That the success of the Zionist enterprise has not yet yielded the peace they so desperately seek, makes this work only an introduction, but a valuable source to those seeking to understand the volatile Middle Middle East of the 21st century. There are many more chapters to be written.

Review of Good Things (Best of Martha Stewart Living) (Paperback)

In the introduction to this book, Martha Stewart defines what she and her staff consider a "good thing". It must be uncomplicated, useful, aesthetically pleasing, interesting, pertinent, unusual, and done with materials that are easily found. I would say that about 75% of the projects in this book meet those criteria as I would apply them.

The book is well organized into seven sections: entertaining, cooking, celebrating, giving, gardening, decorating, and homekeeping. I found useful ideas in each section - some sections were better than others for me - but even the ones of lesser interest to me were still lovely to look at. At the end of the book, Stewart includes a source guide for most of the materials used in this book.

I especially liked the kitchen tips (in the cooking section); the easy instruction for handmade soaps; tole painting on tin buckets; and the organizing hints which included record-keeping.

Some of the ideas did not appeal to me at all (like gluing live ivy leaves along the edges of a tablecloth, making a linen table-sized mat, making linen basket liners, and constructing wraps for bottles) but then again, they were fun to look at!

The beautiful arrangement of this book and its photos made it worth buying.
