This is a must have for a home buyer. especially a first timer like myself. Irwin's book covered many scenerios I experienced in my home buying process. It totally streamlined the process and eased many of my fears.It is tough buying a home especially if you're single. There was no one available to me to ask questions of. I would hate to think what would have happened if I hadn't read it. And for the record I leveraged my closing cost with the mortgage broker and the seller to come up with a zero down and zero out of pocket closing with an interest rate of 5.5% on a 15 year.But just a word of caution: READ as much as you can about buying a home before doing so and don't take someones word and what to do as dogma. And finally, find a good agent and leverage the hell out of the seller.

This book is a very complete guide to poisons. What they are,what part is the most dangerous,who it effects(adults,kids,animals),where it is located
geographicly,how it acts,and how its cured,if it can be cured. I have studied herbs for about 20 years and this is the information I have been trying to find under herbal headings,and couldn't. This book lets you know
the poisons you play with every day around your home( and don't know it.)
You will think twice about everything you do, and you should.

Review of Living Safe in an Unsafe World: The Complete Guide to Family Preparedness (Paperback)

I first borrowed this book from the library and found it so useful I bought it from Amazon. I live in the Washington, D.C. area and felt very unprepared for emergencies in the aftermath of September 11. This guide helps you create a family emergency planand give you tips on keeping safe in more routine situations. Particularly useful was their suggestion of a disaster supplies kit, which I now have. Some items in the kit were predictable--like a first aid kit, but others were not and make a lot of sense like a NOAA emergency radio, list of key addresses and contacts, extra prescription medications etc.While I don't expect to need it for an evacuation or terrorist emergency, these are supplies I would need in other emergencies from power outtages to storms etc. They recommend that you pack this in a carryall and take with you on trips as well.

Also useful was the idea of a family emergency plan--places to meet outside your home in case of an emergency. This would have been very useful on September 11 when all phone and cell phone lines in this area were busy and roads were clogged while people didn't have alternate ways to get home.

Other useful topics are in areas such as fire emergency, food related dangers, weather related disasters, dangerous encounters with animals and insects and a great chapter on home related emergencies.

I think every home should have a reference book like this one.

Review of Storey's Basic Country Skills: A Practical Guide to Self-Reliance (Paperback)

We bought this tome just a few weeks before moving from the city where we'd lived our entire lives to a 20-acre rural country place miles and miles from any city limits.

For the first year especially, we kept this book out. You would be astonished at its contents. It describes the pros and cons of water wells, reusing dirt, planning land for gardens and barns, chicken problems, keeping goats, arranging around weather, tanning leather, insect control, tree problems to watch out for and their solutions, energy in places where the lines don't run, getting water from point A to B, storing grains and other foods, and... you NAME IT!

This made our lives so much better. We didn't even use all the advice we read simply because one family can only do so much the first year they move into the country for the first time but this book was our comfort book in knowing that if we had problems, we'd find the solutions here.

This book provides an excellent guide to the kind of choices one has to make to be successful at buying, rehabbing and reselling homes.It's practical and realistic, and contains both general theory and strategyguidance as well as very specific, useful rehabbing tips.I have beendoing this kind of work for 3 years myself and wish I had read this earlierto save me from some mistakes.

This book is so awesome!I can't say I've read a lot of these types of books, but this was so beautifully laid out, covered so much, and really gave a good foundation for those who want to detox their home and personal use products.I found it to be very practical without being over the top.Because of it, I have totally changed the products I use in my home and on my body.In fact, now I make many of my own cleaning and personalcare products with very simple, money-saving ingredients, and I'm having fun doing it!I would definitely recommend this book to anyone looking to make their house a safe, green home!

Review of Your Successful Real Estate Career (Paperback)

First and foremost I think one of the best parts of this book is the survey at the back which outlines "why most new agents fail" is fantastic.It addresses the key characteristics and traits that are required to be a successful new agent.

At the beginning I was sort of put off by Mr. Edwards "this is why you would fail" attitude but as I got through more of the specifics in the individual chapters I realized that he was setting up a dialog of what to do as well as what not to do.There are TONS of realistic, specific ideas about how to get yourself off to a great start during what can very easily be a very difficult first year in real estate sales.

Since I purchased the book I have taken my licensing class, taken my salesperson's exam and found a firm to work with.I think this book and one other are why I made my way through that process so smoothly.The other book I'd highly recommend is Dirk Zeller's "Your First Year in Real Estate".

I am a Pharmacist with a lot of Spanish speaking clientele.I like the cassettes, but the gentleman speaking has such a thick accent, I have to rely on the woman speaking, to hear the enunciation. The CME is a joke. There are 10 chapter exams (3-12 questions each) and you have to send in $30 PER exam for 3 credits each. That will be $300 for 30 CME credit hours, and only for MD's.Book content VERY NICE: greeting, nouns, numbers, symptoms, physical exam, chief complaint, pap smear, well baby, lab tests, ER, pain, derm, opth, herbal, Rx, dental, family, diet, neuro exam, household items; Tomar/comer/cerrar/dormir/hacer/ir a/poner/venir/tener/estar/ decir/ser/ir/traer/salir/oir/pensar/perder/volver/haber. Also a lot of dialogues completely translated. Appendix finds all answers to chapter exams. (not same as CME questions).I recommend this medical intro. It helps me in my practice, it would certainly help an MD, nurse, PA, DDS and OD as well.

This book is simple in its presentation.It not only provides reference to herbal medicines, but also to the use of food as a medicine.It's not what I would recommend for a serious medical practitioner or herbalist, but it's the type of thing that is handy to have around for the average person.Doses and recommended forms of preparation and ingestion are included, but there is not enough in the way of warnings or interactions.

Review of The Truth About Garden Remedies: What Works, What Doesn't, and Why (Paperback)

Finally, the book I've been waiting for! I'm an avid gardner and a curious person. I am always looking for remedies for the various challenges I have in my garden. Whether it's insects, fertilizer problems, slugs and so on, I'm looking for solutions and not just myths with no foundation in reality. In 'The Truth About Garden Remedies', Dr Gillman covers a wide range of problems that can be encountered by me and my fellow gardners. The difference in this book, unlike most of the books I've read on the subject is that the answers are supported by real science and conveyed in a way that is completely readable. What is even more exciting, is that Dr. Gillman isn't a stuffy reseacher that is unwilling to consider alternative remedies, there are plenty of them in this book. I can't wait to mix up one of the garlic recipes to repel those pesky Aphids! Thank you Dr Gillmam.

Review of Ask a Nurse: From Home Remedies to Hospital Care (Paperback)

This book's information was excellent, but the format used
made it extremely difficult to focus on the extraordinary information.The author chose to pay homage to each of the nurses for their contributions by constantly giving their names and professional initials with every contribution.This was distracting and made for difficult reading.It would have been so much better if it had been footnoted and the names listed at the end.Most of the readers of this book don't know any of the nurses mentioned (sometimes so many listings on a page that you
loose your train of thought).I hope the author will write a new edition with all the names at the end of the text.

Review of The Country Vet's Book of Home Remedies for Dogs (Paperback)

I think this is one of the greatest books I've ever read.We've had dogs all of my life, and this book has some wonderful tips on everything you could ever want to know.

Kudos to Kim Campbell Thortnon and Dr. Fortney! Our dog is 2 and is a beautiful Husky, however he really likes to put ourhands in his mouth.We've had some awful advice from trainers - even AKCtrainers that I wouldn't even consider.This book has helped immensely!
