Review of Think and Grow Rich!: The Original Version, Restored and Revised (Paperback)

I was introduced to "Think and Grow Rich!" by an alcoholic member of our cemetery sales team.I had a wife and three children at the time, and we were just barely making it. My only source of income was the commissions I made knocking on doors selling cemetery property, and they were hard to come by, especially since almost nobody was a permanent resident in the Miami area.

Reading "Think and Grow Rich!" gave me a crutch to lean on as I forced myself out to pound those doors where the potential prospects were. If my family was going to eat, I had to convince people to buy cemetery property 30 or 40 or more years before they would need it. The Six-Step Success Formula the book contains helped me to realize that there was a way even for an uneducated lunkhead like me to make it like the big guys. I followed the success formula faithfully, and, lo and behold, my whole life turned around.

Two of my most useful tools in the book are the poem "My Wage" ("I bargained with Life for a penny...") and "If You Think You Are Beaten" ("Life's battles don't always go to the stronger or faster man...").I truly believe that Dr. Hill has the same message the Bible has for us. It was just little easier for me to apply.I went on to build the largest cemetery organization in the country starting out from my basement on Concord Avenue in Anderson, S. C. In 1970, we sold 30 cemeteries to Service Corporation International, making it possible for them to become the largest funeral-cemetery company in the world.I served as President of their Cemetery Division for three years.

I'm now 82 years old, living comfortably on the shores of Lake Hartwell with my wife of 62 years. Almost all my good fortune came about because I had the good fortune to be introduced to "Think and Grow Rich!" in 1953.(This new addition is actually closer to the one I read back then.The versions sold since the 1960s omit a lot of material that Ross Cornwell has put back in.) I have given away many cases of this great book. It was required reading in my company and in my family, and it has made a difference in a lot of the people's lives who were given the opportunity to make it part of their lives.

Review of Feng Shui for Success & Happiness (Paperback)

"One Joy Scatters a hundred griefs" Chinese proverb.
By opening his preface with this quote, Richard Webster lays the basis of Feng Shui down. He has a theory that you have to be happy before any kind of change can take place.
He touches on what a 'shar' is, how to overcome even the smallest problems with Feng Shui remedies and explains the 'magic square'.
This book is nicely illustrated with line drawings and examples of 'pa-kua mirrors' (which should only be used outside), trigrams and the Magic Square. He also includes the Cycle of Production of the Five Elements (fire, earth, metal, water and wood) and the Cycle of Destruction of the Five elements. He is very thorough and even a rank beginner can understand it.

I would recommend this book for someone who is interested in Feng Shui and wants to have a basis to get started.

Richard Webster explains thoroughly what Feng Shui means, how you can affect small changed in your life and how Feng Shui will help you. He includes a couple of case studies from people he has worked with toward the end of the book as well.

From reading this book, my interest in Feng Shui is more piqued and I will be reading other books to get more information.

Review of Your Successful Real Estate Career (Paperback)

First and foremost I think one of the best parts of this book is the survey at the back which outlines "why most new agents fail" is fantastic.It addresses the key characteristics and traits that are required to be a successful new agent.

At the beginning I was sort of put off by Mr. Edwards "this is why you would fail" attitude but as I got through more of the specifics in the individual chapters I realized that he was setting up a dialog of what to do as well as what not to do.There are TONS of realistic, specific ideas about how to get yourself off to a great start during what can very easily be a very difficult first year in real estate sales.

Since I purchased the book I have taken my licensing class, taken my salesperson's exam and found a firm to work with.I think this book and one other are why I made my way through that process so smoothly.The other book I'd highly recommend is Dirk Zeller's "Your First Year in Real Estate".

Review of Working at Home While the Kids Are There, Too (Paperback)

This book would be good if the title was "How to start an at-home business."But, as far as having anything to do with working at home with children, there is very little.The little it does have is basic parenting skills.From the title I expected the book to have tips about how to handle the children while working at home. It did not.The word "working" in the title is a present tense word meaning that you are currently at work in your home.This books gives instructions on how to begin to work at home.I am very disappointed and feel completely mislead by the title. I did not gain one thing from reading this book.

Review of Undress for Success: The Naked Truth about Making Money at Home (Hardcover)

Finally a work at home book that's written for the 21st century. So much of the other stuff that's out there is pure junk. This book does as the title suggests, tells the truth.

The three sections of the book deal with home jobs, home businesses, and freelancing (which is really a home business but the authors make it a separate section because in it they cover stuff that only pertains to freelancers like which job boards to use when looking for work, how to document your freelance relationships, how to price your services, etc.).

They cover all kinds of stuff I've never seen in another book like what employers hire home-based staff, what they pay, and how to get a job with them. The give specific instructions for how to convince your boss to let you work from home (and offer other special book-buyer-only samples on their web site at http://undress4.success.com). They lay out what ought to be in a freelance contract and how to make sure you get paid for your work. And they offer a neat way of coming up with web-based business ideas and then show you how to go about figuring out if they make sense.

I was so sick of being taken by work at home scams (which they cover in depth in the book) that I was reluctant to buy yet another book about working from home. So I read who some of the people were that gave jacket endorsements and then I went to their web site and saw that they've been quoted in all kind of legit places like the Harvard Business Review, USA Today, Wall Street Journal and lots of other. I concluded that these guys are the real deal and now, having read the book, I can say I was right.
