At first I thought this book was sort of a kids book because of the front cover, but it is not a kids book at all.This true story is what the author (and owner of this dog) really went through with her dog from puppyhood to present - all the ups and downs of dog ownership.I am a dog owner and I'll tell you, as much as you adore them and love them completely, they can be very trying at times - just like kids!Jane Alkon writes about all of it - their puppy moments of incredible sweetness and napping like an angel and then when they wake up and they are like lunatics and doing funny things - all their antics and discoveries as they go through puppyness - and the tolerance you have to have as a pet owner to get through it all!You can just tell she loves dogs and her writing is so great - it's just like some of the things I experienced with my dogs.Her pictures are wonderful. It's a great book to help someone learn about dog ownership and also connect with this author and her very big meaty doggie.For pet owners and non-pet owners alike.This book will either make you want to have your own dog, or be glad you don't have one.Jane really tells it like it is - the love is there!Either way you'll find a kinship with this woman and her dog.You're going to feel like you know them both after reading this book.

Jane Alkon is an American author and artist. Jane Alkon is the author of "Mr. Boy", the first in a series of books about her Labrador retriever. "Mr. Boy" is Alkon's second published work and combines her artistic background with her love of writing and passion for her dog, Andy. An award-winning metalsmith and self-taught painter and woodworker, Alkon is also the author of "Elements-Art and Design", a retrospective of her work of over 20 years as a handcraft artist. A Michigan Native, Jane Alkon attended Michigan State University where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and her Master's degree in Labor and Industrial Relations. Inspired by the love of her dog, Andy, Jane Alkon's easy-going, natural writing style and wonderful photographs coupled with her creative background provided the perfect foundation for a second literary venture. Jane lives in Southeastern Michigan with her dog, Andy.
