Review of Secrets of Self-Employment (Working from Home) (Paperback)

I found this book to be quick and easy to read, with very applicable and down-to-earth information about the rites of passage to the entrepreneurial world.Their advice does not focus on actual business management, althoughthey do offer wonderful tips on such topics as time and paper flowmanagement.Instead, they address all the things typical business textsand professors do not mention.I have an MBA from a top 10 businessschool, and I am learning more from this book about the psychology ofstarting a business than I ever did in school.

The Edwards have helpedme to understand the fears and doubts I have had over the last few months,while I have been contemplating leaving my well-paying and secure positionat a large consulting firm.Until I picked up this book I thought I wasthe only one who questioned their decisions and their capabilities as anentrepreneur.Now I know that everyone has similarly scary feelings, andthat there are ways in which we can minimize them, and even take advantageof them.Every page offered some form of support or valuable advice, and Ifelt myself gaining confidence with each chapter.I also learned moreabout myself and what type of business I would prefer, after reading theirdescription of classic entrepreneurs vs. "propreneurs" (theirterm for individual professionals and craftspeople).I have gone from astate of anxiety to gung-ho enthusiasm!

In a simple way it tells you all the caracteristics of your child and his needs. The book is divided in specific ailments, like fevers, bruises, ear infections (the real reason why I bought it), diaper rashes, etc. and gives you all the homeopathic medicine that would suit your child depending on his behaviour. Then there are all the medicines listed in alfabethical order where it explains what they are and they are for. An A++++ for Dana Ullmann . I'm looking forward to purchasing the book for the whole family !Thanks !!! P.S.: By the way my Daughter has improved so much, she is almost a new child , no more whinning and crying. This is a must book for every home!All areas of potential toxins are covered, and there is a huge index of resources of where to purchase healthy products, with phone numbers addresses and websites!I bought alot of great products that I would never have known about this way, and Iam very greatful for all the practical advice in the book.I never couldpinpoint what was making me sick, but after reading this book, I didn'twonder "why" I had a headache after standing in a newly paintedroom, etc.!

I literally planned my house around the advice given inthis book!On many subjects, different views are given, and you are leftto weigh the pluses and minuses and decide for yourself.This book is easyto read, fascinating, and not at all preaching.The author is also notbound by any predisposition to follow any specific views (i.e. she is notcompletely conventional or completely alternative) and just presents thefacts straightforwardly.

Review of The Best Home Businesses for the 21st Century (Paperback)

This is a 1999 edition of a similar book published by the authors in 1994. It is a good basic overview of the scope of possible home businesses that have proven successful for people in the past. It is not an encyclopedia of all possible ways to earn money from home, but rather focuses on what the Edwards' have determined to be the top 100 possibilities.

There is a fair amount of detail in each job description, although being familiar with some, I can say that the information given in those cases is not enough to actually start such a business, nor is it an in-depth look. The section on Desktop Video barely mentions the fact that you need to have a certain amount of talent, and that it is not an easy job at all. This book is designed to give one enough information about a business to determine if it is worth further research, and gives some resources for that research.

Given the age of the book, some of the information is way out of date. Again, the Desktop Video section is a good example: a 3 gig hard drive is hardly considered large today, and is not nearly enough to even begin editing video. This was obviously before the advent of MiniDV, which requires 13 gig or more per hour of video. I also found a glaring error on page 16: a week has 168 hours, not 174 (at least where I come from: 24 hours times 7 days). While such an error is easy to have creep in, a fact that easily checked but missed does make one pause about other information in the book. The book has a long Table of Contents but no Index.

If you are thinking about trying a business of your own, this book can be helpful in getting a basic idea of what each of these businesses might involve. After you get an idea of a few businesses in which you might be interested from this book, you should research your chosen fields with much more depth. This book is not enough on its own to start you in a business, IMHO.

Review of Homeopathic Medicine At Home (Paperback)

I have been studying homeopathy for 30 years & when I do not have time to fully repertorize an illness (which is almost NEVER with anything acute these days!) this book is my first resource. It seems to cover most acute illnesses & is especially good for treating colds, flu, stings, gas, teething problems, sore throats, etc....

I would like to see a better cross-referenced Index, but the numerous charts supplied somewhat make up for this short-coming - making it pretty easy to locate the problem/illness without too much difficulty. It also contains a nice little Materia Medica in the back -- so if you can't decide between several remedies this will help narrow the choice as it gives the specifics for the remedy as opposed to the main part of the book which gives the recommended remedies for the illiness.

I often back it up with "Everybody's Guide to Homeopathic Medicines" by Stephen Cummings & Dana Ullman - but if I had to choose only one book to purchase I would go with the book I am reviewing.

Another small short-coming of the book is it doesn't cover CELL SALTS as completely as needed (although, to be fair, no "quick-guide" homeopathic book does - with any depth anyway). which is why I would recommend the companion book: "Natural Healing with Cell Salts" by Dr. Skye Weintraub. Personally, I have found cell salts to work extremely well in conjunction with homeopathic remedies. Even though I practice the principals of classical homeopathy (ONE remedy at a time - changing the remedy until you find the one that works, & change remedies as soon as symptoms change &/or the current remedy no longer works) I still like to combine a homeopathic remedy with a cell salt. (A good example here would be a fever with a flushed face: homeopathic remedy might be Belladonna, and add the cell salt - Ferr Phos.)

Over-all I couldn't give the book 5 stars due to the inadequate Index and less-than-stellar coverage of CELL SALTS, but for my money, this is still a best-bet!

If you are new to homeopathy I can not encourage you enough to pursue this wonderful means of natural healing! And if you are a Christian, I urge you NOT to get hung up on the aspect of energetic healing until you learn more about the principals. I am a Christian who have seen ignorant fellow-Christians shrink at the idea of homeopathics as if they were some kind of voodoo. This is simply a fear-driven response that hopefully will be re-evaluated.

Anyone interested in pursuing the principals of healing through homeopathic medicine, more in-depth, would do well to purchase the book "The Science of Homeopathy" by George Vithoulkas and also get a Materia Medica by Boerricke and a "Repertory" by J. T. Kent. You could also call your local naturopath & ask if they offer classes. Anyone can learn homeopathy. I began when my children were born and they never had to take antibiotics more than once throughout their entire childhoods. They are now all adults who practice homeopathy with their own families, and this is the first homeopathic book I gave them as a gift when they moved into their new homes (along with a basic supply of remedies).
