Review of Aromatherapy: Soothing Remedies to Restore, Rejuvenate and Heal (Paperback)

This was the first book I puchased on aromatherapy, and I must say that it is the best book I have read!!! Not only does she include recipes, she also includes the essential oil reference guide, which is my favorite part, because she gives you a breakdown of not only the origin name, but what thephysical and the psycho-emotional benefits are to the essential oils. Shealso gives you a headstart on how to make your own formulas, by including ablending chart. Please pick up this book, if not any other book.

Product Description
This comprehensive guide to aromatherapy discusses the possible healing properties of scented, therapeutic oils. It shows how to use aromatherapy to alleviate specific ailments. The book is organized in cookbook style, with recipes for scents, soaks and baths and is tailored for moods and needs.--This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Review of Nature's Prozac: Natural Ways to Achieve Peak Mental and Emotional Health (Paperback)

I've been looking at books on natural alternatives to Prozac, and this is the worst I've seen for that purpose.

Believe it or not, the dozens upon dozens of ailments, symptoms, and therapies in this book are not organized in a logical order, but *alphabetically*. It really takes some digging to find what you need.

For instance, to get information about "depression," look in the D's. On the other hand, if you want to know about "the blues," look in the B's. "Sadness/despondency" is in with the S's. "Grief"--check the G's.

For that matter, if you're depressed, you might also want to check out "affirmations," "agitation," "alienation," "behavioral therapy," "cognitive awareness," "drowsiness," "escapism," "fatigue," "guilt," etc.--each in their own separate listings. You will not have the patience to do this, because this book is 500 pages long. Don't you think they might have organized this book better?

The title "Nature's Prozac" suggests that this book covers natural alternatives to Prozac, such as St. John's Wort. Discussion of these is inadequate almost to the point of being nonexistent. (St. John's wort is mentioned in a list on p. 217 and there are three sentences about it on p. 74.)

If you're looking for an encyclopedia of entries on non-medical therapies, buy this book.

If you're looking for medically sound advice for people with depression, the best book I found at my library was Murray's Natural Alternatives to Prozac (a bit old). I am also about to check out Bamuel's Dealing with Depression Naturally and Knishinsky's The Prozac Alternative.

Review of Jeanne Rose: Herbal Body Book: The Herbal Way to Natural Beauty & Health for Men & Women (Paperback)

I'm 14 years old, and am just discovering the world of herbs, and ofcosmetics. I found this book very useful in both areas, because of thewonderful descripitons, and the useful, simple recipies. Oh, also, the version I read was the 1976 version (from the library of course) so I imagine that this newly updated copy is even better!

Review of Flower Essences for Animals: Remedies for Helping the Pets You Love (Paperback)

I had found flower essences to be an extremely useful method for myself and other humans to heal some of worries and fears of everyday life, so I turned to Ms. Devi's book with great anticipation for how I might also improve my relationship with my pets ( 1 dog, 4 cats) and how the flower essences might improve their relationships with each other and feel better about themselves.Ms. Devi gives much guiding wisdom for better understanding the living situation from the pet's perspective, and how the flower essences can most help each pet according to their individual personalities and needs.I have seen my relationship with my pets grow even more meaningful and can attest to the fact that if you attend to their emotional needs, in addition to their physical needs, you will be rewarded with the tremendous well of unconditional love which our pets have available for us.I especially like the index of personality traits and symptoms at the end of the book - very helpful for those "quick-need" situations.

Review of Rosemary Gladstar's Family Herbal: A Guide to Living Life with Energy, Health, and Vitality [ILLUSTRATED] (Hardcover)

Rosemary Gladstar's Family Herbal: A Guide to Living Life with Energy, Health, and Vitality, is basically all her small manuals (Home Medicine Chest, Herbs for Beauty, Herbs for Children.. etc..) condensed into one handy volume with added information she doesn't include in her other books. She has been an herbalist for quite some time, and really knows her stuff. She also presents it in an easy to read and understand format while including some information about scientific properties of certain plants. Of course, you can't only have one book on herbalism, you have to cross reference, but this is a good book to add to your collection. It has a lot of good recipes, too.

Now everyone can share in her wisdom and enthusiasm with this practical yet evocative compendium. Her herbal recipes address everyday ailments, ease stress and anxiety, and promote radiant beauty within and without while nurturing longevity and well-being throughout the life cycle. An herbal apothecary at the end of the book provides an A-to-Z guide to herbs and their healing uses, along with safety precautions, dosage information, and guidelines for when to seek traditional medical help.
